The Closet (2020)

The Closet (2020) is a South Korean horror mystery film directed by Kim Kwang-bin, starring Ha Jung-woo and Kim Nam-gil. It follows a father’s desperate attempt to find his missing daughter, only to uncover a terrifying force hiding in their new home.

After the death of his wife, Sang-won moves into a new house with his daughter, Yi-na. Not long after settling in, Yi-na begins to behave oddly and speaks of a new friend—then vanishes without a trace. While police efforts fail, a mysterious man named Kyung-hoon approaches Sang-won with a chilling theory: the answer lies inside the closet in Yi-na’s room.

Driven by fear and guilt, Sang-won dives into a hidden world, confronting a supernatural entity responsible for the disappearances of many children. The film combines emotional trauma with eerie visuals, using a domestic setting to build escalating dread.

The performances by Ha Jung-woo and Kim Nam-gil bring emotional depth to the story. Although the plot has drawn some criticism for its predictability, the film’s atmosphere and concept earned it a place among modern Korean horror favorites. Released on February 5, 2020, The Closet continues to appeal to fans of psychological and supernatural thrillers.
