The long-awaited American remake of Train to Busan, previously titled The Last Train to New York, has finally made some progress. Screenwriter Gary Dauberman confirmed that the script is complete, and his main focus was preserving the emotional core and character dynamics that made the original film so impactful.
The remake shifts the setting from South Korea’s KTX high-speed rail to an East Coast train route, which Dauberman says he’s familiar with, having traveled between Washington D.C. and New York frequently. While the project has faced delays—Warner Bros. removed it from its release schedule in 2022—it still has Timo Tjahjanto attached as director and James Wan as producer.
It’s been stuck in development limbo for years, but with the script finalized, there’s hope that production could finally move forward. Are you excited to see how they adapt it for American audiences?
